My main focus is to initiate conversation with you on how to visually communicate effectively. I engage you on how to project inner messages of not only who you are, but also who you can portray.
Good photographs tell a creative visual story. Understanding this through shared conversation will help you to project not only who you are internally but also who you can portray fictionally.
When you engage in the roles that are best suited for you, it allows me to explore your creative ability with my camera.
We will work together to find out how to achieve your best perspectives, and discuss in related conversation your objectives. I will guide you on how to project the right messages throughout the photoshoot.
Capturing dynamic messages are what will make your visual intrigue apparent. Strongly perceived images will display your multiple potential to any media project. We will provide you a wide variety of images that will enhance your acting portfolio.
Media clients need to become engaged with your casting photos. Professionals in the industry, will sense your ability in the various characters and passions that you project. We create actors head shots that project desirable, magnetic and intriguing messages.
During a photo session I have never accepted anything other than the best that an actor can be, and then some. I challenge actors to communicate and project effectively for their photo shoot, which produces better images and ultimately helps you to further any actors vision and goals that you may have.
For decades I have photographed thousands of actors, in Ottawa and Montreal as well as front of house and program shots for many theater companies and dozens of productions over the years. There are so many approaches that help to create a great head shot. The obvious is in studio with various background and lighting choices that can add a real dynamic feel to your image, or location shooting where we can find some amazing places with variety and texture, that will work some magic into your headshot. Weather permitting we will do both!
Actors Photo Session Rates
$200
Student Application Headshot
For students applying to universities or colleges and are in need of an actors headshot to submit with their application we offer a reduced rate headshot of $200.00 The session includes 1 outfit and 3 final choices, retouched in Photoshop.
$250
Standard Actors Headshot session
This session includes 3 wardrobe changes and 6 retouched finals and includes all images taken as high res digital files. Depending on the weather and time of season, multiple locations are scouted out in advance. The session lasts approx 2 hrs and is a start and stop during which we take some time to analyze some of your session as we go to make sure we are getting the best results.

Professional Headshots/Body Shots
This session adds to the standard headshot package plus adds in additional body shots and extra wardrobe changes for a total of 5 looks. There will be 12 retouched finals provided and all originals are also included. The session lasts 2 1/2 to 3 hrs and as in the standard session, we also take a substantial amount of time to analyze the photoshoot in progress to enhance and further the session.

I came to Alan Dean Photography upon the recommendation of my son’s agent. “My son, the actor...” -still feels weird to say that. Jack is young, but Alan didn’t talk to him that way. He sized Jack up pretty quickly and knew that he was serious about the craft of it -that he wanted to do this well -that he was professional. So Alan spoke with him like a professional, taking his time to explain the choices he was making and stopping every now and then to show Jack the images he’d taken. “See that? See the changes just by putting your foot up? By altering the light? By taking on a different persona? That’s where the photo is. Do that.” It was an incredible thing for me, as a parent, to sit back and watch. Seeing my kid respond to something that he’s so driven to do and soaking up the education that Alan was willing to give him- I’ll remember that for a long time. We were there for two hours, but the experience will continue to impact Jack well into the future. And the resulting photos are spectacular.
